GM or Genetically Modified foods have been around since the 1900s. Now, you can easily find them in grocery stores with their new looks, tastes and characteristics. They are very popular these days, and lots of people enjoy eating them. Some people say that GM foods may cause human health problems, but no studies yet prove this a fact.
The discovery of new plants adds more variety to the different fruits and vegetables to eat. People in grocery stores or in restaurants would have more to choose from. If we have new products coming out, it would also encourage people to try more fruits and vegetables. These new products will also improve the growing techniques of plants and help grow better, and more developed ones in the future. The GM foods have just started developing and in the future, people might be able to choose the perfect combination of fruits and plants that they prefer the most.
GM plants are produced so they are more convenient and comfortable for us to eat. Like the watermelon with no seeds, there is no need to them out anymore. Maybe even good-tasting enough peels that we do not have to throw them away. All we would have to do is just eat it! GM plants can also be easier to cook. For example, onions that make you cry and slow down the cooking can be improved so that they would not give you teary eyes. Other convenient thing might be their size. There are mini vegetables and bigger ones. Like bell peppers that come out in smaller sizes with more nutrients or pumpkins that are grown to be twice the size they are supposed to be. We can choose the sizes of the plants however we want it to be.
Most people buy GM plants because it is made especially for them. People would like it better if it was made so they could get more benefit from it. First, some of them are produced with better taste, taste that is fit for us, and better quality. Others are produced to increase nutrients, like the golden rice with increased amounts iron, and vitamins. There are also sweet potatoes that are resistant to viruses, bananas that can cure diseases like hepatitis B and others that can help us. GM plants can also be beneficial to farmers, because some are made to grow faster, and to be more efficiently processed. In addition, they are friendly to the environment. Some require less soil, water, and energy so we could conserve more of them.
Genetically modified foods gives us more diverse types of plants. They are more convenient to eat, and help our world in different ways. These GM plants have proven to only help us and not harm us in any way. Some of them even help cure diseases and provide us with more nutrients. For most modified plants, they taste better and are easier to eat at the same time. They are also designed to have more efficient processing and save our natural resources. These genetically modified plants will keep on developing as time goes by, and we need to allow more research on them and continue to encourage more of them to be produced.

So I just finished my sat ii bio!
Now I must face finals week!
But I’m not going to write about unhappy things.
I’m going to write about my blog title. It’s pretty random, but then again, at least it’s not depressing.

Class pets are pretty common everywhere. In 6th grade we used to have two hamsters in Ms. Heinike’s room. I think they were named Ham and Cheese. Mr. Hopkin has a turtle in his room, named turtle. Actually it doesn’t really have a name. But our awesome english class has Choco as our class pet! Choco is this little guy right here.

He’s been with us for almost this whole year. Although he may not move or breath he’s still our one and only class pet. This guy will probably be the most unique class pet I will ever have in my life. Thanks to Mr. Stephens we have such a unique pet. Nobody else around the world probably has a cooler pet than we do. :)

Do your feet a favor. And wear toesocks.

This might sound really weird, but toesocks are very beneficial items– it’s just that not many people know it. When people think of feet, they don’t see it as the most pleasant thing in the world. As the day goes by, our feet become really sweaty and smelly inside our shoes. Some serious cases such as athlete’s foot, a lot of us are in the risk of getting it in the summer when you sweat. Wearing toe socks will keep your toes separated, absorb all the moisture effectively and control the heat between the toes to prevent bacteria from growing on your feet. Never will you need to worry about disgusting fungus growing on your toes when you have your toe socks on. And there’s no need to worry about lint collecting in your socks and having icky cotton balls stuck on your toes when you take your socks off. Toe socks create an environment in your feet so that germs cannot grow on them, therefore keeping your feet healthy, clean and odorless.

Your toes are being squished together inside your shoe and I am sure  it needs something like toe socks for exercise. We need to give each and every one of our toes freedom! Right now they are not happy in those conventional socks. Our feet has 26 bones, 31 joints and 20 muscles which do not move as much as they need to. Toe socks allow us to move our toes more keeping more control over our feet for its proper function. Your body balance starts from your feet and having control over them will give you better body balance. Now your feet will be able to do its job to its fullest ability.

Not only do toe socks give you such benefits, it is comfortable and very fashionable. First of all, because each of your toes are being separated, your toes are able to move more freely. The movement of toes increase blood circulation and will gives you the warmth that you need in the winter. But what about summer? The separation of toes prevent friction and prevents your feet from overheating and sweating in summer! Also according to the foothealthcare.com, toe socks reduce 90% of getting blisters on your feet by stopping to toes from rubbing together. It is very comfortable and people tend to do better in sports with better balance and concentration. And on top of all that, toe socks are unique and fun! It is different and people will definitely notice you when you wear them. It’s something that you can benefit from AND look good.

Don’t you honestly think that toe socks are awesome?

So I read some shocking news a while ago in the newspaper.

Cheerleading in Korea is seen as nothing but mere dancing. If you wear puffy skirts in flashy colors with pom poms and jump around, people consider you as a cheerleader. Essentially their job is to cheer “lead,” so Korean Cheerleaders do that by dancing to loud, upbeat music. Sports cheerleading a different type of cheerleading that we have at our school. Sports cheerleading is very different from what Koreans consider as cheerleading. It requires a lot of strength, coordination and athleticism.

Sports cheerleading has yet to be established as a sport in Korea, but we took our first step last April by being a part of the 2009 ICU (International Cheer Union) Championship.

As Team South Korea, they went against more than 40 different nations and represented South Korea. This was the first ever world cheerleading championships and I was glad to see that we could be a participant. Although it is impossible to compare ourselves to the US or other nations where cheerleading is widely accepted, I think the South Korean team did farely well. They entered in the COED ELITE and placed 12th out of the 14 nations that participated.

I liked this competition because each team represented their country, and brought their own unique style to he audience. The Korean team showed their own style by adding tae-kwon-do moves in the middle. Their Coach Clinton Johnson explained that his job of getting a group that is completely new to sports cheerleading and training them to compete against other teams in the world was an insane task. However, everyone seemed to be satisfied with the results, and I think for Korea, we’re off to a good start!

It was about three years ago when I first fell in love with Andy Warhol’s art. Jenn and I visited the Museum of Modern Arts (MOMA) in the summer when we vacationed in New York for a while. As soon as I saw the wall covered in red Campbell’s soup cans, I immediately fell in love with pop art.

Pop art is a very different style of visual art that started in the 1950s in England and soon made its way to the US. Apart from the abstract paintings of the previous time periods, I think pop art brought a new style of art to our modern world. I am a huge fan of pop art, because I love the way pop artists incorporate popular images and icons into the world of art. This use of imagery in paintings brought about significant changes to modern art, and unlike the time when pop artists were criticized for their different styles, pop art is greatly appreciated and artists such as Andy Warhol are very well recognized today.

In the world of Modern Art, pop art has probably grown to become the most famous style of art. There are many pop artists today that still continue the use of imagery and vivid uniqueness to their artworks. I have just read in a magazine a few weeks ago about how pop artists often use celebrities as models of their pieces. Like Andy Warhol’s famous work on Marylin Monroe, many pop artists such as Shepard Fairey who painted Obama in red and blue, use famous figures as models.

Dinner With a Perfect Stranger by David Gregory

This is the most recent book I have picked up to read just for my own enjoyment. Dinner with a Perfect Stranger by David Gregory, is an invite to a dinner with the Jesus of Nazareth. Nick, an average worker in Cincinnati Ohio, receives an invitation from Jesus to a dinner. He goes to the dinner expecting it to turn out as some sort of joke his co-workers have planed for him. But as the evening progresses, he realizes that it was really Jesus, who he spent his dinner with.

This book is short and sweet. It doesn’t drag on with detaills or list uninteresting facts. In the beginning, I found this book to be actually very comical. The words are very easy to follow, but the meaning within the words deliver so many messages from God. Jesus answers questions about religion; not only Christianity but all other religions in the world. He answers Nick’s questions on life, God, faith and his goals. Judging from the dinner that Nick had with Jesus that night, I’m guessing that one night would have changed Nick’s workaholic life towards a total opposite direction. For me, just by reading this, it changed my view of myself as a Christian significantly.

I love forensics.

I guess my love for forensics began last year at my first ever speech tournament at sfs. I entered in Duo with Hanna, and it was an amazing feeling recieving third place AND an all conference medal just on my first tournament. Then being one of the few qualifiers in Korea to go to the National Forensics League was probably the best thing that has happened in highschool yet. I think I was very lucky to have gone to the nfl. Not just because I could compete with other people, but more because I could learn so much and take so much with me by watching other people perform. It opened up my view of speech and debate to a whole different level.

I’m more of a speech person than a deabate person. A lot of people see speech events as easy simple things that anyone can do. It is true that anyone is capable of doing speech, and that’s why the amount of effort and creativity you add into your performance counts so much. Even when you have a script in front of you, your interpretation of the script is what really counts, and how you execute it than the quality of the script.

This is the poem that I did this year, and I will remember forever and ever.

Hands
By Sarah Kay.

People used to tell me that I had beautiful hands.
Told me so often, in fact one day I started to believe them.
Until I asked my photographer father “Hey daddy can I be a hand model?” To which he said: “No way.”
I don’t remember the reason he gave me, and I would’ve been upset but there were far too many stuffed animals to hold, too many homework assignments to write, too many boys to wave at, too many years to grow.
We used to have a game, my dad and I, about holding hands. ‘cause we held hands everywhere. And every time either he or I would whisper a great big number to the other pretending that we were keeping track of how many times we had held hands. That we were sure that this one had to be eight million two thousand seven hundred and fifty three.
Hands learn more than minds do, hands learn how to hold other hands, how to grip pencils and mould poetry. How to tickle a pianos and dribble a basketball. And grip the handles of a bicycle. How to hold old people and touch babies.
I love hands like I love people. They’re the maps and compasses with which we navigate our way through life.
Some people read palms to tell your future, but I read hands to tell your past. Each scar marks a story worth telling, each palm, each cracked knuckle is a missed punch or years in a factory.
Now I’ve seen middle-eastern hands clenched and middle-eastern fists pounding against each other like war drums. Each country sees their fists as warriors and others as enemies. Even if fists alone are only hands.
But this is not about politics, no hands are not about politics. This is a poem about love. And fingers. Fingers interlocked like a beautiful zipper of prayer.
One time I grabbed my dads hands so that our fingers interlocked perfectly. But he changed positions saying: No, that hand hold is for your mom.
Kids high five, but grown up, we learn how to shake hands.. You need a firm handshake, but don’t hold on too tight, but don’t let go too soon, but don’t hold on for too long.
But hands are not about politics. When did it become so complicated? I always thought it simple. The other day my dad looked at my hands as if seeing them for the first time, and with laughter behind his eyelids, with all the seriousness a man of his humour could master he said: “You know, you’ve got nice hands. You could’ve been a hand model.”
And before the laughter could escape me, I shake my head at him and squeezed his hand. Eight million two thousand seven hundred and fifty four…

I never thought I would ever do poetry because I, too, like most people thought it was nerdy to be reading poems. But nfl changed my mind right away and I think my decision to join poetry is one I’ll never regret.

I am probably the last person that would ever become an enthusiatic blogger. I’m not a blogger. For some reason I find it really painful to update my blog as well as check out other people’s blogs, commenting, replying to comments and all that. My last edublog was erased because it was left inactive for too long.

When I first came to Kroea, everyone was in love with Cyworld, and if you didn’t have one you were sort of… unusually weird and they would start questioning your social life. So I was forced to make one although I never went back to it after my first post. Then there was Xanga. Xanga probably lasted the longest for me. Xanga wasn’t like Cyworld where you only post pictures and chat with people through comments. I wrote about all sorts of things happening in my life, but as people started moving to myspace and to other blogs I slowly started to forget about Xanga.

Now, there’s facebook and probably everyone in the world has one right now. I made a facebook account in 8th grade (because Susan said I HAD to), and SURPRISINGLY I don’t facebook. wow. Shocking. I know.

One of the biggest reasons other than being too lazy to blog was that I never got to understand what blogging was truly meant for. Hopefully this new blog will give me the motivation to write more entries. I already wrote my first one!!!! :D
